In 2001, Adam Walker & Timothy Rowe co-founded Cobalt Recruitment, following successful careers in the property recruitment sector.
James Wakefield – Chief Executive Officer
James became Cobalt’s first CEO in April 2017 after nearly 10 years with the business. During this time he has led teams in London and the UAE whilst playing a leading role in the expansion of Cobalt’s non-European operations and the development of the management team on a global basis. James joined Cobalt in July 2007 from the City Division of Michael Page having quickly established himself as one of the company’s most successful consultants and managers. Prior to his career in recruitment he served as an Officer in the British Army for 6 years, during which he deployed on multiple operational tours and gained a Queen’s Commendation for his efforts to rebuild the key infrastructure of Southern Iraq in 2003. James holds a masters degree in Economics & International Relations.
Richard-Emanuel Goldhahn – Managing Director – Germany
Richard began his professional career managing human resources for major national operations. He then joined Cobalt in 2008, quickly establishing the company’s German operation. He has enjoyed a successful period as the managing director of Cobalt Deutschland GmBH.
Christopher Mackenzie – Managing Director – UK
Christopher joined Cobalt in 2003 as the Managing Director, overseeing UK business and leading the head office in London and office in Manchester. He has been involved in the growth of Cobalt and is responsible for real estate sector recruitment and business development. He has a vast amount of experience and has an excellent track record of recruiting professionals for various property companies and consultancies. Before Cobalt, he worked in the banking sector and has a degree in Financial Services.
Stephen Shorter, ACA, MA (Hons) Cantab – Finance Director
With a degree in Social & Political Sciences, Stephen worked at Nuffield Health until 2011. Here he held a variety of commercial finance roles within the Consumer Fitness division. He had prior training with Deloitte LLP in London, where he specialised in consumer businesses and health care. When he left Nuffield, he joined events agency, Unspun as General Manager, overseeing all financial operations. Some of his best moments at Unspun included delivering the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Sara Burton – Global Operations Director
Sara commenced her career in Recruitment on an Interim desk at Badenoch & Clark, initially recruiting accountants for surveying practices, before diversifying into sourcing the surveying professionals themselves. Seeking an opportunity to build on this sector expertise, she joined Real Estate specialists Cobalt in 2003 to start the Interim Surveying desk in London. Her success at incubating new divisions included kick-starting the public sector, Middle East and Singapore desks. Having had such a broad experience in both location, sector and type of recruitment, Sara is our in-house expert on legal recruitment and compliance matters, taking the lead in everything from key account management, supplier engagement and database management. Sara holds a degree in Philosophy & Politics from the University of Warwick, and much good it does her too.
